Genesis 1 reflection

Genesis chapter 1 tells us that there is a God. Not only is there a God, He is the one who creates everything and makes us. (Genesis 1:1, 27) He creates us in His image, and wants us to subdue the earth and rules over all living creatures. (Genesis 1:28) Notice God uses the word, subdue the earth. Subdue means having to struggle to fight to conquer the earth. It is not something that is done without any efforts on our part. To subdue means having to fight, in order to conquer the world. God expects us to work to subdue the world.

God also wants us to be fruitful and multiply in numbers. (Genesis 1:28) In other words, God expects us to have children. How can we be fruitful and multiply unless we have children. Yet, today, many of us are choosing not to have children because we consider them to be a burden. We sin when we are married and yet do not want children, because we disobey God's commandments to be fruitful and multiply. We need to see children as blessings and obey this commandment of God.

God needs only to speak and everything is created. Each time God makes something, God merely spoke. This shows us the great power of our God. God is so powerful that His word alone can create the universe. This only shows us how powerful God's word is. If, for instance, God can make things out of nothing merely by speaking, how can we doubt that He is able to keep all His promises to us in His word, the bible? We need to remember that regardless of what circumstances we are in, it just needs one word from God to change it.

God highly esteems us. For the animals, God only gives every green plants for food. But for us, He sets us apart from the animals and gives us more than what He gives the animals-- every seed bearing green plants and trees with fruits in it. This shows us how mankind is valued by God more than the animals.

Another thing we disobey God in is in the order of day. God creates a day to be evening first, before morning. (Genesis 1:5) Yet, we changes God's initial order of how a day begins from evening first to morning first. Today, we begin our day in the morning and ends in evening. God initially plans for a day to begin in the evening and ends in the morning. This is a slight disobedience, yet it is still a disobedience.

Conclusion: Genesis 1 is a wonderful chapter that tells us some information about God, how He exists, and is the creator of all things.
